Terrell Davis says Phillip Lindsay “deserves a new contract”

Mar 8, 2021, 12:22 PM

Pro Football Hall of Fame running back Terrell Davis told NFL Network that homegrown star running back Phillip Lindsay deserves to be paid.

Lindsay is one of several Denver Broncos players who is set to become a restricted free agent in the next week.

“The Broncos gotta do right by Phillip Lindsay,” Davis said. “The dude came in as an undrafted free agent, came in the first two seasons with back-to-back 1,000-yard seasons. He’s been putting in work, he’s been showing up, doing everything he’s supposed to do.

“Listen, sign the man, bring him back, pay him some money … he deserves a new contract and he deserves a contract from the Denver Broncos.”

According to reports, the Broncos are expected to tender Lindsay. 9News Broncos Insider Mike Klis reported last week that the second-round tender would bring less hassle to Denver because it would all but prevent other teams from trying to sign Lindsay.

General manager George Paton said last week in a press conference that the team does plan on tendering Lindsay.

“Phillip is a good player and very passionate. He had some injuries last year and he brings energy and juice,” Paton said. “He’s a restricted free agent and we do plan on tendering him. I’m not sure at what level but we want Phillip here.”

The Broncos must submit its RFA tender to Lindsay by March 17.
