Broncos All-Time Roster: Running backs

The Denver Broncos have seen a plethora of talented players since the merger of the American and National Football Leagues in 1970.

While it may be easy for Broncos Country to explain why a particular quarterback or running back is the best of his generation, this list is here to tackle which Broncos players are the best of all time.

Every Fan host was tasked with ranking top Broncos players’ skillsets to come up with the greatest Broncos roster.

This all-time roster will have a few no-brainers on it, but ultimately the Fan hosts decided who was the best of the best.

Here is the Broncos’ all-time roster at running back.

Terrell Davis 

Terrell Davis played only seven seasons for the Denver Broncos but had one of the biggest impacts the franchise has seen, becoming the team’s all-time leader in every major category for a running back.

Appearing in 77 career regular-season games for the Broncos, Davis rushed for 7,607 yards and an even 60 touchdowns on 1,655 carries.

Even 20 years after his retirement from the NFL, Davis remains the team’s all-time leader in each of those three categories.

He was selected to play in 3 Pro Bowls, won 2 Offensive Player of the Year awards, 1 MVP award, 1 Super Bowl MVP award and 2 championships and was inducted into the Hall of Fame in 2017.

Floyd Little

Floyd little spent nine seasons with the Denver Broncos (his whole career) and recorded 6,323 rushing yards and 43 rushing touchdowns on 1,641 carries.

Little is also a member of the Pro Football Hall of Fame and ranks behind only Davis in all three of those major categories in regards to the Broncos’ all-time rankings.

He was a five-time Pro Bowler and one-time All-Pro selection.

Clinton Portis

Clinton Portis was selected by the Denver Broncos in the second round of the 2002 NFL Draft and has to identify himself in a talented group.

Portis’ career in Denver was short, but he made an impact.

He is one of only three players in NFL history to have rushed for at least 1,500 yards in each of his first two seasons; the others are Pro Football Hall of Famers Eric Dickerson and Edgerrin James.

Portis had one Pro Bowl selection (2003), was 2002 Offensive Rookie of the Year (AP, Pro Football Weekly, Football Digest), NFL Rookie of the Year (Sports Illustrated), and October 2002 NFL Offensive Rookie of the Month.
