JaVale McGee selected to join Team USA for Tokyo Olympics

The Denver Nuggets’ own JaVale McGee will be representing the USA after being selected to the 12-man Olympic roster on Friday, according to Shams Charania.

A pair of spots opened up in recent days when Washington Wizards star Bradley Beal and Cleveland Cavaliers forward Kevin Love had to leave the team, per ESPN’s Adrian Wojnarowski. Beal entered Team USA’s health and safety protocols and Love is dealing with a lingering calf injury he suffered during the regular season.

The Denver Nuggets acquired McGee from the Cleveland Cavaliers in March, bringing the big man back to the Mile High City after playing with the team from 2011-15.

McGee averaged 5.5 points and 5.3 rebounds in 13 games with Denver after being traded.

Through the 2020-21 season, McGee has played in 7,471 NBA regular season games, started in 349 games and compiled 12,810 minutes (17.1 mpg.).

McGee was named a finalist for the 2021 USA National Team and U.S. Olympic Men’s Basketball Team on on March 11, 2021.
