Should the Broncos inquire about Ravens QB Tyler Huntley?

The sexy speculation over the past weeks and months has surrounded the Denver Broncos shoring up its quarterback situation with a trade for Aaron Rodgers or Russell Wilson.

But could another name — one that has turned heads in recent weeks — be a more viable, cost-effective option to suit up under center for Denver?

Starting in place of the injured Lamar Jackson on Sunday, Tyler Huntley came within a two-point conversion leading the Baltimore Ravens to an upset win over the Green Bay Packers and reigning MVP Aaron Rodgers.

Against the Packers, Huntley threw for 215 yards and two touchdowns on 28-of-40 passing while also rushing for two more scores — a feat even Jackson hasn’t done in his brilliant young career.

In relief of Jackson the previous week against the Cleveland Browns, Huntley threw for 270 yards and a touchdown on 27-of-38 passing.

Ravens head coach John Harbaugh told the team’s website after the game that Huntley took a “big step” forward on Sunday, especially in terms of handling himself, taking off to run at the right times and passing accuracy.

“You have to have two quarterbacks that can win for you,” Harbaugh said. “Tyler is playing that kind of football.”

After the game, Baltimore tight end Mark Andrews also lauded the undrafted gunslinger, calling him a “special player.”

“I think everybody on the field feels a connection with him. He puts the ball where it needs to be, his eyes are great,” Andrews said. “Being behind a guy like Lamar, you learn a ton, and he’s been able to absorb all these different things. I think he’s going to be a superstar in this league for a long, long time.”

Huntley is an exclusive rights free agent this offseason, though it’s unlikely the Ravens will let him walk without getting anything in return.

But with Jackson securely in the QB1 role for Baltimore for the foreseeable future, it might be of interest for the Ravens to unload Huntley for the right asking price.

And with the Packers’ likely to demand a king’s ransom for their MVP — and for good reason — Huntley is an attractive prospect for a Broncos team looking for its quarterback of the future.
