Report: CU football getting serious, reportedly offers Deion Sanders the job

Nov 26, 2022, 11:15 AM

Things are getting interesting in Boulder.

After reports surfaced earlier this week that the University of Colorado and Deion Sanders were in talks about him potentially becoming the school’s next head football coach, it’s gotten even more serious. According to Bruce Feldman of FOX Sports, the school has offered “Prime Time” the job. The report starts at about the :28 second mark of this video.

Wow! How about that? It sound like CU Athletic Director Rick George is trying his best to make Sanders to Colorado happen. And, according to Feldman, Sanders “has legit interest in becoming the Buffs’ new head coach.” That’s promising for a fanbase starved for good news after watching about two decades of bad football.

Sanders is currently the had coach at Jackson State, where he’s led the Tigers to an 11-0 record so far this season. Meanwhile, CU is 1-10 and fired head coach Karl Dorrell at the beginning of October. Interim coach Mike Sanford helped guide the team to a win over Cal, but has watched his team give up at least 42 points a game in five straight losses since that victory.

We’ll keep you posted, but it sounds like there’s some real momentum for Sanders to make the leap to Boulder. It would immediately re-energize a program that hasn’t been relevant on the national stage in a long, long time. And most importantly, hopefully the Buffs would start winning some football games again.
