Cowherd spilled the tea on Payton and the Broncos and it’s the best news

It appears that Colin Cowherd’s best friend Sean Payton may have been given the stiff arm by the Broncos.

There are no scheduled in-person interviews planned between the former Super Bowl-winning head coach and Denver this week. That fact is stunning considering where we all thought the coaching vacancy search was going. Cowherd said on his show on Tuesday that Payton should not consider the job because of Russell Wilson. Cowherd followed that with the statement that he is a big fan of Wilson’s.

However, Wilson’s private office and the private chiropractor are just too much to handle for Cowherd. This is the first I’m hearing about the chiropractor, but, hey, it’s Russ, nothing would surprise me.

This appears to be an occasion of breaking up with your girlfriend before she dumps you. It’s hard to imagine Payton is just now realizing he has to deal with all things Wilson.

“They can’t quite nail him down on the personality stuff and the offseason stuff. I think if I’m Sean Payton, and $25 million is a lot of money, I’d pass,” opines Payton’s frequent dining companion Cowherd.

Hey, I get it. I wanted to go to the senior prom with Beth Beverly; I found out she wanted to go with Gage Mulholland, so I asked Melissa Stewart. I mean Beth was beautiful and all but she clearly would’ve gone with me had I asked her. Frankly, I would’ve been lucky if Melissa accepted my invitation too. You know what? I’m just not going to sign anybody’s yearbook!

It feels like Payton is passing the word through his pal that he isn’t interested. GIMME A BREAK!  The absence of Payton doing an in-person interview is beyond conspicuous. Now it seems a few of us in the media are being fed the word that there are mysterious other things that are throwing a wet blanket on the proceedings. The distance is quickly growing. Is it surprising?

It’s shocking!

All along we thought it was Payton interviewing teams, and now it appears the white sneakers at his wedding (always going with a hipster move) are on the Broncos feet. It appears the Broncos head honcho Greg Penner has a way of doing things, and patience is at the top of that list. ESPN NFL insider Adam Schefter said he has never seen such a slow-moving head coach hiring process. Welcome to the languorous stylings of Walmart.

However, perhaps this is just what the doctor ordered. Perhaps, a new way of thinking is long overdue in Broncos Country. It was a fired-up jet on the tarmac bound for Jacksonville that seemingly brought us a fired-up coach in Hackett. If Penner wants to cool his jets to wait for the person he feels best about, I think we can all chill alongside him. Meanwhile, the personal spin council of Payton can thrust blame at Old Man Wilson all he wants. It took a long time to break the Broncos, we can certainly use patience to fix them.
