There was room for just one member of CU’s Sanders family at the NFL Scouting Combine.
While quarterback Shedeur Sanders was invited to the NFL’s largest annual pre-draft event, his brother, safety Shilo Sanders, will not be on hand. Wide receiver Will Sheppard, who was also part of the Buffs’ contingent at the Shrine Bowl, was also left off the Combine list.
Three Buffs teammates will join Shedeur Sanders for the Combine, which begins Feb. 24 in Indianapolis: Heisman Trophy winner Travis Hunter and wide receivers Jimmy Horn Jr. and LaJohntay Wester.
Some 329 players were invited to the Combine, including 56 defensive backs.
Shilo Sanders will have a chance to work out at CU’s Pro Day, which takes place later in the pre-draft process. He posted six tackles and a pass breakup during his Shrine Bowl work last month.
Whether that qualifies as the statement he wanted to make last week is debatable, because when he was asked about that during Shrine Bowl practices, Sanders responded boldly.
“The greatest statement ever made,” he said last month. “I just want to do all I can. Just keep showing everybody who I am as a player and just keep getting better. Keep learning from these coaches up here. These are NFL coaches, so just being able to learn from them is great. So, having a week up here with them and putting it all together in practice.”
