INDIANAPOLIS — Terrance Ferguson, a native of Littleton and a product of Heritage High School, came to the NFL Scouting Combine wanting to make an impression. Friday night, he did.
Ferguson blasted through the 40-yard dash in 4.63 seconds, giving him the fastest time for any of the tight ends who ran during Friday night’s tight-end workout.
It was a strong finishing kick to a week that saw him land on the radar of his hometown team, as the Denver Broncos were among the teams to “>hold a formal interview with him. That the Broncos sat down with Ferguson was no surprise given their need for a pass-catching tight end and his pre-existing timing with Bo Nix, dating back to their time together at Oregon.

FERGUSON WANTED TO SHOW HIS “RAW ATHLETICISM”
When he met with media Thursday, Ferguson noted that he wanted to show just how athletic he was, which he felt got lost in the shuffle.
“I just want to show my raw athleticism and also just in the drills… how fluid of an athlete I am and a great tight end,” Ferguson said. “I think just the raw athleticism is something [that isn’t] talked about enough.”
That’s something that would come in handy if he ends up being drafted by the Broncos, who are seeking a pass-catching tight end with the fluidity and body control to make plays in space and down the field, a dynamic element that their offense has mostly lacked.
Broncos coach Sean Payton has talked about wanting a tight end in the vein of Jeremy Shockey and Jimmy Graham, downfield threats he had during his time with the New Orleans Saints.
But that tight end needs to have at least a rudimentary ability to block, and to that end, Ferguson noted at the Senior Bowl that he wanted to improve at “point-of-attack blocking.” Doing so would help him become as versatile as he hopes to be.
“I think that’s something I take pride in… being able to do everything and being a fluid athlete in the middle of the field,” Ferguson said. “That’s something I’d love to do. Be able to own the middle of the field and be that athlete. I definitely think I have that ability. It’d be amazing.”
He certainly looks like he has the raw speed to do it, based on his work Friday night.
