Report: Sutton believes contract talks with Broncos are ‘working in right direction’

Courtland Sutton doesn’t want to leave the Denver Broncos, and it seems like they don’t want him to move on, either.
As he told The Denver Post at an event on Saturday, things appear to be “working in the right direction” on a contract extension to keep him with the Broncos beyond the 2025 season.
“My team has had a really good conversation with the guys up there in the front office, and I think it’s working in the right direction,” Sutton told the Post. “Ultimately, you just want to know you’re working in the right direction. I think they see and have seen what I’ve brought to the team.
“I’m open and optimistic about the fact that I’ll be able to be here for the rest of my career.”
The eight-year veteran wide receiver had the second 1,000-yard season of his career in 2024 as the Broncos made the postseason for the first time since 2015. He is the Broncos’ second-longest tenured player, trailing only left tackle Garett Bolles.
Sutton did not participate in voluntary OTAs last year as he looked to renegotiate terms of his contract, but has indicated he will take part in the voluntary team-organized work this offseason even as contract discussions continue.
He played the 2024 season on a reworked deal that gave him more incentives, some of which he met as he had his most prolific season since 2019, the last season before he tore his anterior cruciate ligament two games into the 2020 campaign.
Of equal value to his on-field contributions was what he provided as a team captain and locker-room leader.
Per OvertheCap.com, Sutton’s contract now ranks 25th among NFL wide receivers in average per-year value, trailing that of former teammate Jerry Jeudy, among others.
