Rockies skipper Bud Black encountered trouble on his way to LA

Bud Black has been the manager of the Colorado Rockies since 2017, but goes back to San Diego every offseason to spend time at his home down in sunny Southern California. Whenever the Rockies are in town to take on the Padres, he stays at his residence in San Diego.
On Monday, Black encountered troubles when he tried to travel to Los Angeles on his own instead of with the team after getting swept by the Padres over the weekend. His goal was to take a train ride up to Los Angeles, but while he was waiting on the platform to catch his train, it was announced that there would be delays in the schedule after a 5.2-magnitude earthquake had shaken up that region of the state.
“I was down on the platform at 10:35 waiting for the 10:40 train. Perfect,” Black said on Monday. “[The] announcement came on that because of the earthquake they had to check the tracks. I didn’t want to wait.”
After catching a ride to LA that cost him almost $200, Black was in uniform and in the dugout for Monday’s game against the Dodgers. However, the Rockies didn’t stand a chance in the game as soon as Shohei Ohtani hit a monster home run in the third inning. The Rockies ended up losing 5-3, dropping their record to 3-13, the worst start in franchise history.
Maybe Black’s delay helped with something, as the team was finally able to break through and score a run after 32 consecutive innings of being shutout. While the Rockies didn’t win, they made progress in one area that can lead to a win one day.
The Rockies are back in action Tuesday night against the Dodgers as they try to snap a four-game losing streak. Ryan Feltner gets the start from LA, with first pitch set for 8:10 p.m. Denver time.
