Travis Hunter has an ultimatum for teams that won’t let him play on both sides of the ball

Travis Hunter is one of the top prospects in the 2025 NFL Draft, there’s no question about that. Throughout the pre-draft process with the 2024 Heisman Trophy winner, the only question that has been raised is whether or not he will play on both sides of the football in the NFL like he did in college with the Colorado Buffaloes.
Many critics have claimed that he won’t be able to do what he did in college in the pros because the NFL is a much more physical game or because it’s too much information to retain. On the other side, supporters of Hunter playing both sides in the NFL, such as CU head coach Deion Sanders, say that the NFL is a much slower game than college football, and the added breaks in between plays would benefit him playing both sides.
In an interview with Garrett Podell of CBS Sports recently, Hunter delivered a simple message for teams that wouldn’t let him play on both sides.
“It’s never playing football again,” Hunter said. “Because I’ve been doing it my whole life, and I love being on the football field. I feel like I could dominate on each side of the ball, so I really enjoy doing it.”
Hunter also specified that none the NFL teams he has talked to has had an issue with him playing on both sides which is a good sign. ESPN’s Adam Schefter recently said that teams will originally view Hunter as a cornerback, and these recent comments by Hunter signal that he could primarily be a corner while also contributing on offense.
The former Buff showed that he’s up for the challenge, playing a high number of snaps in games in the Colorado altitude along with playing in the middle of the Texas late-summer heat. He is one of the most well-conditioned athletes in the country, and also one of the smartest as he’s had to double the mental work of any other college football player.
In one final move at Colorado before he heads to the professional ranks, it was announced Monday that Hunter’s No. 12 jersey would be retired at the Black & Gold Spring Game on Saturday afternoon, forever enshrining him in Buffaloes history.
