This week, we’re proud to salute Commander John Rosecrans of the Northglenn Police Department.

Commander John Rosecrans served in the United States Army Special Forces before becoming a police officer.  For the past 19 years, he has served the citizens of the City of Northglenn as a police officer, sergeant and commander.  Over his career, Commander Rosecrans has been a member and leader of the Special Weapons and Tactics (SWAT), Problem Evaluation and Response Team, Police Motorcycle Team, Operations Chief for the first ever department emergency management drill, Special Events & Traffic Unit Supervisor, Impact Supervisor for undercover operations and Traffic Highway Safety operations and is now the police department Project Manager tasked with the coordination and planning for building a new justice center for the Northglenn Police Department.

Over the last 9 years, he has been instrumental for the departments’ Specialized Operations Units.  Commander Rosecrans is an outstanding example of what a leader looks like.  He is highly accomplished, trained, dedicated to his profession, and has significantly given his time to help officers of the department better themselves.

In his position as Support Commander, he manages the Specialized Units, the Community Relations Department, the Training and Traffic Unit, and the Records Unit.  This includes supervising, coordinating and participating in all special events involving officers of the department and members of the community.  He also coordinates and participates in multi-jurisdictional commercial vehicle safety and enforcement programs while supervising the training for 68 sworn officers to ensure they receive their required in-service, P.O.S.T., leadership and specialized training.

Over the course of his career, Commander Rosecrans received numerous awards and achievements to include Leadership in Police Organizations, Special Forces Qualifications Course, Special Forces Communications Course, Department of Defense Arabic Language School, Distinguished Expert Marksmanship Award, Distinguished Service Award, Community Policing Award and the Northglenn Police Department Leadership award to name a few.

In 1990 Commander Rosecrans completed his Bachelor of Science Degree in Business Administration from Colorado State University. Today he continues his education towards his Masters Degree in Police Administration from CSU Global.

When he is not in uniform Commander Rosecrans does what he enjoys most, hunting, fishing and guiding.  In 1999 he and his partner started and built an outfitting business just outside of Grand Junction, CO.  During this period he outfitted over 150 people into the back country.  He has since sold his business and today he continues to guide 20-30 hunters each year on Elk and Mule Deer hunts in the Colorado Mountains.  He assists in the planning of necessary food and supplies, supervision of staff, and happiness and well-being of clients.

Commander Rosecrans embodies all the values of the Police Department – Integrity, Excellence and Respect, Courage and Character and above all Commitment.

Thank you, Commander Rosecrans – for your service.  And for going…Beyond the Badge.
