Mark Schlereth would take Rodgers over Mahomes

Could Aaron Rodgers make more of an impact for the Broncos in one season than Patrick Mahomes? Fan host Mark Schlereth believes so.

On Wednesday a listener texted into “Schlereth and Evans” saying that Denver will not win an “arms race” with the Chiefs, who will just build a deeper roster to continue winning.

Schlereth quickly pointed out that a strong roster holds more power than people believe.

“Did they lose the arms race to the Tampa Bay Buccaneers or did they get out-rostered in the Super Bowl,” Schlereth asked. “Ultimately they got beat by a better team.”

When he compared Rodgers to Mahomes, Schlereth said that the Packers quarterback is as good as anyone who has ever played in the league.

“He is every bit as good, if not better, than Mahomes,” Schlereth said.

And that’s where it got interesting.

Co-host Mike Evans pressed Schlereth and asked if he had the choice between Rodgers or Mahomes to be the Broncos quarterback for the upcoming season, who would he take?

“For one season I would take Rodgers over Mahomes,” Schlereth said. “From a pure quarterback standpoint, what you’ve seen over the course of your career, the offenses that you’ve been in, your knowledge of the game and the skillset that you currently have? Rodgers was the MVP last year.”

Over his NFL career, Aaron Rodgers has made 190 starts and completed 4,285 of his 6,587 pass attempts (65.1% completion rate) for 51,245 yards with 412 touchdowns and 89 interceptions.

Schlereth believes the veteran presence and knowledge from Rodgers would take the Broncos farther in one season than Mahomes.

“What you have in Rodgers right now is as good as it will ever get at the quarterback position,” Schlereth said. “I still think Kansas City’s roster is outstanding, but you still have some roster building to do, but with Aaron Rodgers you become a playoff team.”
