Von Miller hopes to play ‘five to seven more years’ in NFL

Denver Broncos superstar Von Miller believes he could play another “five to seven” more years in the NFL, but the notion could topple his hopes of being a “Bronco for life.”

At 32 years old, Miller is entering the final year of his contract with the Broncos and the veteran pass rusher believes he can continue to play at a high level. However, Miller potentially wearing another uniform to prolong his career is something he is “at peace” with.

“I would like to keep playing. Whether that’s here with the Denver Broncos or somewhere else, I’m totally at peace with that,” Miller said on Tuesday. “I want to play five to seven more years, I think I said that a couple weeks ago.”

Miller’s last few seasons with the Broncos have not gone the way anyone planned.

He missed all of the 2020 season due to an ankle injury and in 2019 he only accounted for eight sacks – the lowest since 2013.

The Broncos elected to exercise an option clause in Miller’s contract that guarantees $7 million of Miller’s $17.5 million base salary for the 2021 season. He also accounts for $22.1 million in Denver’s cap space.

Miller said he is not thinking about 2021 being the last year of his contract with Denver, he’s more focused about what’s ahead of him.

“I’m not really thinking about this is the last year of my contract, [or] will I be with the Broncos,” Miller said. “Last year, to be honest, that was really on my soul. I really wanted, I really wanted — of course I want to be here. I want to stay here for the rest of my career, but getting past that is kind of a release for me.”

It’s no question that Miller will go down as one of the greatest Denver Broncos of all-time. He currently leads the league with 106 sacks in 135 career games. However, another five to seven years in the NFL may indicate that his career with the Broncos is coming to an end.

Regardless of his future, Miller is poised to have an incredible season with the Broncos. Add his right-hand man Bradley Chubb back into the mix and the two could attempt to break their combined 29.5 sacks that they notched through 20 games.
