Star Buffs players expect Deion Sanders to stay in Boulder

FRISCO, Texas — Deion Sanders remains the head coach of the Colorado Buffaloes. The Dallas Cowboys still don’t have a replacement on the sideline for Mike McCarthy, who was jettisoned after five seasons in the head-coaching role last week.
And this confluence means that speculation continues to boil, even as rumblings persist that Cowboys owner Jerry Jones is zeroing in on longtime NFL coordinator Brian Schottenheimer for the gig.
Until there is certainty, there will be chatter.
“I don’t know,” said former Buffs safety Shilo Sanders, who along with putative high draft pick Shedeur Sanders is one of two sons of Deion Sanders who played for the Buffs last year — and will be representing the program at this upcoming week’s East-West Shrine Game, for which practices begin Saturday morning.
“I just actually called him and asked him, and he don’t tell us nothing,” Shilo Sanders said. “Then I asked Shadeur. He doesn’t know. I call my older brother. He don’t know nothing.

“I wish he was up here so we could ask him. All of us together, just team up and ask Coach Prime, ‘What is he going to do?’ Because I don’t know.”
But ultimately. Shilo Sanders believes his father Deion will return for a third year stalking the Buffs sideline.
“I think he’s going to stay at Colorado. It’s not really like, a big speculation. We already knew he was going to stay at Colorado, but it would be a surprise if he coached somewhere else.”
“I think he’s gonna be there,” wide receiver and kickoff returner Jimmy Horn Jr. added. “You go ask him where he’s gonna be at. I’m pretty sure Coach’s Prime’s gonna stay at Colorado.”
DEION SANDERS HAS A NICE SITUATION IN BOULDER
And while Horn didn’t know for certain whether Deion Sanders would remain on the job, he believes the overall situation in Boulder is tough to beat.
“It’s just the love he gets from that school, the love and the support and the people that’s behind him when it comes to that program. He got a great support system, from the AD, Mr. Rick George, and the players that’s coming there to play for him, and the the fans, and then he gives back to the community, too.
“You can’t beat it out there for Coach Prime.”
Buffs wide receiver LaJohntay Wester: “I think he would stay, but at the end of the day, that’s not my call. That’s just my opinion. I think he’ll stay, but if he don’t, he don’t.”
And of course, draft spot matters. With the Cowboys holding the No. 12 overall pick and Dak Prescott firmly under contract, the Cowboys’ chances of drafting Shadeur Sanders appear to be remote, preventing a family reunion with Deion at the head of the table.
“But he has said that if he could coach both of us — But that’s going to be hard,” Shilo Sanders said.
“…. ‘Cause Shedeur’s going pretty high, you know?” Shilo Sanders said. “And even if it’s the Cowboys, they have a later pick. So, I don’t know.”
