Broncos front office loses key member, as Jets hire Mougey

One of the longest-tenured members of the Broncos front office is leaving Denver. Assistant general manager Darren Mougey is heading to the Big Apple, where he’ll become the general manager of the Jets.

Mougey had been with the Broncos since 2012, when he was hired by John Elway as a scouting intern. During the next dozen years, he worked his way up the ladder, serving as Denver’s assistant director of college scouting, director of player personnel and assistant GM.
Now, he’ll make the leap to general manager, tasked with rebuilding a Jets team that holds the longest current streak of non-playoff seasons in the NFL. New York hasn’t been to the postseason since 2010.
The first-time GM will be paired with a first-time head coach, as the Jets hired former Lions defensive coordinator Aaron Glenn last week. Ironically, the two football minds first came together during one of the Broncos head coach searches.
When the Broncos interviewed Aaron Glenn for their head coach vacancy in Dearborn, Mich. in 2022, Darren Mougey was in the meeting as a part of Denver’s search committee.

One of George Paton’s most-trusted assistants has left the building. It’s great opportunity for Mougey, but a big blow to the Broncos front office.
