Travis Hunter took the college football world by storm in his two seasons with the Colorado Buffaloes. The two-way phenom dominated on both sides of the ball for the Buffs at a level that no one had ever seen before in the history of the sport, not even by the man who recruited him, Deion Sanders. With the NFL Draft coming up soon, it’s no secret that Hunter will be one of the top picks in the Draft, but will he go No. 1?
The Tennessee Titans hold the No. 1 overall draft pick, and since they are not a candidate to select one of the top quarterback’s in the Draft such as Colorado’s Shedeur Sanders, Hunter could be in a good spot to be the first prospect taken off the board. However, the other side of that argument is that the Titans could possibly trade down in the Draft, and give that pick to a team who needs a quarterback like the New York Giants or Cleveland Browns.
According to FanDuel Sportsbook, Hunter is currently the third favorite to be selected with the top overall pick in April, no matter the team (+850). Hunter is not focused on the odds, but he does want to hear his name be the first one called when the time comes.
“It’s super important [to be drafted No. 1],” Hunter said at the NFL Scouting Combine Thursday. “That was one of my dreams, to go No. 1 and be the best I can be.”
Bo Matthews is currently the highest drafted Buff in program history, as the running back was selected second overall by the San Diego Chargers in the 1974 NFL Draft. Byron White (No. 4, 1938) and Michael Westbrook (No. 4, 1995) are the only other Buffs to be selected in the top five.
Shedeur Sanders also has a very good chance to be selected in the top five this year and join the exclusive list of Buffs to be drafted that highly. With multiple teams in the top five needing a new quarterback it’s more than likely he will be off the board after the first five picks.
Neither Hunter nor Sanders will do drills this week and instead save their efforts for Colorado’s pro day, which should take place in mid-late March.
