Ryan Lindgren’s appearance Tuesday tied an Avalanche record

Mar 5, 2025, 9:35 AM

The 2024-25 season has been a total whirlwind for the Colorado Avalanche. Despite all the trades the team has made and the injuries that have been suffered, more dominance from Nathan MacKinnon still has the club in the heart of the Western Conference Playoff chase as the season winds down.

Avalanche fans have constantly been trying to keep up with who’s on the ice on any given night, and the assortment of names on the back of an Avalanche sweater this season has grown more and more each week.

Tuesday, when Ryan Lindgren took the ice for the first time as a member of the Avalanche after being traded from the New York Rangers, he became the 43rd player to play for the club this season. That tied the record of most players to appear in a single season since the franchise relocated in 1995 (43 players appeared in the 2022-23 season), and is the most in the league this season.

Lindgren didn’t record a stat in the box score Tuesday, but racked up 20:33 of ice time (fourth most by a defenseman) and was very active in the defensive zone. Once Josh Manson returns from injury, he and Lindgren will be 4a and 4b for Jared Bednar’s defense, behind Cale Makar, Devon Toews and Sam Girard.

Lindgren’s appearance only tied the franchise record, but it shouldn’t take long for Jimmy Vesey to step on the ice for the Avalanche and break that record as the 44th player to appear for the team this season. The 31-year-old was a scratch Tuesday but will be on the ice sooner than later.

Vesey’s first appearance for the club could come Thursday as the Avalanche host the San Jose Sharks at Ball Arena.
