Two CU Buffs games already moved into Prime slots

Two Colorado Buffaloes games for this fall were moved to Friday nights, the Big 12 Conference and its television partners ESPN and FOX jointly announced on Friday.
Deion Sanders third season in Boulder will begin on a Friday night on Aug. 29 against Georgia Tech. And a few weeks later, CU’s conference opener at Houston has been moved up to Sept. 12. The two were part of the 10 games league-wide that were moved up to Friday. The Big 12 says network designations and kick-off times for these games will be announced at a later date.
The Buffs and Yellow Jackets contest will be their first-ever meeting on the gridiron—though they are always linked since the two programs both claim the 1990 national championship. CU was named champions by the AP, FWAA, NFF and USA Today/CNN and the Yellow Jackets were named champions by the UPI Coaches poll, thanks to Nebraska, maybe. It’s the first of two contests between the two schools, with the second meeting coming in Atlanta on Sept. 5, 2026.
The contest against Houston, which was going to be a non-conference game before the Buffaloes rejoined the Big 12, is the second time these schools have faced off.
The Buffaloes have brought in 31 new players this offseason, 17 of which have come from the transfer portal. The new group is headlined by 5-star quarterback Julian Lewis, MaxPreps National Player of the Year, and quarterback transfer QB Kaidon Salter. The Buffs will have to replace last year’s starter, Shedeur Sanders and Heisman winner, Travis Hunter.
Colorado still has some really good players ready to build off Coach Prime’s Alamo Bowl appearance, including linemen Jordan Seaton, Cash Cleveland and playmakers Drelon Miller and Micah Welch. On the defensive side, there’s Preston Hodge, DJ McKinney, Carter Stoutmire and Colton Hood, along with edge players Taje McCoy, Samuel Okunlola, Keaten Wade and Arden Walker.
We’ll find out more about kickoff times and TV schedules in late May or early June.
