Javonte Williams time in Denver is done; the running back is Dallas bound

The legal tampering period of NFL free agency has been good for the Broncos. They’ve added big-time players on defense, upgrading at safety and inside linebacker.

But the unofficial start of the 2025 season has been all positive for the orange and blue. Among the news on the day one of free agency was word that a fan favorite is leaving Denver.

Javonte Williams is signing with the Dallas Cowboys, per Tom Pelissero.

Williams was a second-round pick of the Broncos in 2021. He spent four seasons in Denver, rushing for 2,394 yards and 11 touchdowns during his time in the Mile High City.

While those numbers aren’t dazzling, there will always be a bit of “what could’ve been” with Williams. He rushed for 903 yards as a rookie, while also leading the NFL in broken tackles. But the trajectory of his career took a turn when he suffered a major knee injury just four games into his second campaign.

After that setback, things were never the same for Williams. He was part of a running-back-by-committee approach in 2024, sharing time with Jaleel McLaughlin and Audric Estime. That made it painfully obvious that his time in Denver was coming to an end.

He’ll get a fresh start in Dallas, joining a Cowboys team in desperate need of help in the backfield. If he can regain his rookie form, Williams will be a nice addition for America’s Team.
