Monday was a historic night for Nathan MacKinnon and the Colorado Avalanche, as the reigning Hart Memorial Trophy winner tallied his 1,000th career point in the first period of Monday’s game.
Or so the fans thought. After a long review, an offsides call negated the goal, keeping MacKinnon at 999 career points.
Fast forward to the third period, and MacKinnon finally made it happen after assisting on an Artturi Lehkonen goal.
However, many Avalanche fans were not able to see the goal live due to a programming error on the Altitude Sports broadcast. KSE President of Media Ventures, Steve Smith, released a statement Tuesday morning.
“Due to a software malfunction, a programming error occurred that ended the live broadcast early for some viewers. Once we identified the issue, we were unable to
resolve it by the end of the game,” the statement said.
The issue seemed to only affect fans who were watching the game via Xfinity, as those watching on other platforms such as Fubo TV said their broadcast was not affected in a negative way.
While this was more than likely a carrier issue than an Altitude issue, it still impacted many fans watching the game who missed an iconic milestone for MacKinnon. This comes a little over a month after it was announced that KSE and Comcast had reached an agreement to get the Nuggets and Avalanche back on TV for the first time since 2019.
The Avalanche will be back on the ice tonight in Minnesota, as they take on the Wild in a pivotal division showdown.
