Colorado Football’s spring game to be on national TV for the second time in three years

Mar 17, 2025, 1:17 PM | Updated: 1:22 pm

The University of Colorado announced Monday that the 2025 Black & Gold Spring Football Game will be broadcast on ESPN2, the second time in three seasons under Deion Sanders that the game will be nationally televised. In 2023, the game was televised on ESPN as the entire college football world wanted to see exactly what luggage Coach Prime was bringing to Boulder, and in 2024, the game was on Pac-12 Network.

The game, taking place at Folsom Field on April 19, will be the first look for many at a very different Colorado team from the previous two seasons. Without Shedeur Sanders, Travis Hunter, Cam’Ron Silmon-Craig and many more players who were vital to reviving the program, April’s game will be a chance for many to see the new quarterback battle, a reloaded defense and possibly even a re-vamped kicking game.

With 17 new incoming transfers and 13 new high school recruits, there will be plenty of new faces at Folsom Field on game day.

Coach Prime also said he’s currently working to get another school to come play against the Buffs for the spring game.

“I’d like to play against another team in the spring, that’s what I’m trying to do right now to have it competitive,” Prime said Monday. “Playing against your own guys kind of gets monotonous and you really can’t tell the level of your guys.”

The spring game, or Black & Gold Day, has been a massive success for the university in the past two seasons. The game was sold out in 2023 despite freezing temperatures in Boulder, and the 2024 edition sold over 28,000 tickets as fans watched through a rainstorm.

Last year, the university turned the game into an entire weekend event, headlined by Lil Wayne performing a concert at the CU Events Center after the game. There was a talent show, a plethora of events for kids to have fun in pregame, and even an event in which the university sold Nike-branded T-shirts with Coach Prime on them and his signature sneaker, the Nike Air DT Max ’96.

While there has been no announcement of the university putting on a similar event to 2024’s this year, there is still plenty of time to get things lined up. For now, it’s just the football game with no other school(s) involved. Kickoff from Folsom Field is set for 2:30 p.m. on April 19.
