Tuesday was a big day for Denver’s new NWSL team, as the team announced its plans to build a 14,500-seat stadium at Santa Fe Yards, located off Broadway and I-25. The site is planned to open in 2028 while the team, announced at the start of the year as the 16th team in the NWSL, will begin play in 2026.
The district is a huge milestone for women’s sports in the state of Colorado, as it will be the first sports and entertainment district built in the state for professional women’s sports.

The whole project will cover 14 acres of land and will feature the stadium, a mixed-use development and a 3.5-acre recreational park. A key aspect of the stadium is its flexibility, as it will be build with future expansion and larger events in mind to easily accommodate more seating.
Another aspect of the project is that is has walkability and public transportation in mind. The district will be next to the I-25 & Broadway RTD light rail station, giving easy access for many people in the southern part of town to reach the stadium while having a light rail connection to Union Station for fans coming down from the north side.
Plans for a temporary stadium will be revealed at a later date as the team needs a home for its first two seasons of play while this district is being built. For now, this is a monumental announcement for women’s sports in Colorado, and as a whole, as Denver nears closer to the day it finally has a professional women’s sports team in action.
