The Colorado Rockies traded away Nolan Jones over the weekend in return for Tyler Freeman, a player who can play in both the infield and the outfield, from the Cleveland Guardians.
Jones and Freeman are close with one another as they’ve come up together all the way to the major leagues. After the trade on Saturday, Jones decided to FaceTime his buddy and tell him that he got traded after being pulled from the lineup.
However, Freeman had similar news for his friend, and the two quickly connected the dots that they had been traded for each other, sending Freeman to Denver and Jones back to Cleveland.
Nolan Jones and Tyler Freeman became friends while playing in Cleveland, and still keep up despite Jones moving on to Colorado.

Once the trade became official later that afternoon, the two called each other back and confirmed what they thought was true. For Jones, he was traded back to Cleveland where he began his MLB career in 2022. Freeman also started his big-league career in 2022, and has spent all three of his seasons with the Guardians. In the 2022 season, the two didn’t play much for Cleveland and were used in backup roles for a Guardians squad that made it to the American League Divisional Series.
The Rockies and the Guardians only face off one time this season, a three-game series in Cleveland starting on July 28.
