Starring Heisman Trophy winner Travis Hunter and top quarterback prospect Shedeur Sander, the Colorado Buffaloes will host Pro Day on April 4, which will be broadcasted live on NFL Network, the school announced on Monday.
The two-way standout and the legendary Buffs gunslinger will be among the 16 draft-eligible players participating in drills in front of NFL scouts and close family and friends. Joining the big names will be linebacker LaVonta Bentley, defensive lineman Shane Cokes, defensive lineman BJ Green II, wide receiver Jimmy Horn Jr., safety Travis Jay, offensive lineman Justin Mayers, defensive lineman Chidozie Nwankwo, safety Shilo Sanders, wide receiver Will Sheppard, safety Cam’Ron Silmon-Craig, safety Herman Smith III, offensive lineman Kardell Thomas, punter Mark Vassett, and wide receiver LaJohntay Wester.
The day will begin at 9 a.m. with players reporting to the weight room for measurements and bench press before heading out to CU’s indoor practice facility for vertical, broad jump, 40-yard dash, and pro-shuttle-L-drill. In the afternoon, position drills will commence with segments for linebackers, defensive line, offensive line, quarterback/wide receivers, defensive backs, and specialists. The NFL Network will cover the day-long event with a two-hour broadcast live from 12:30 to 2:30 p.m.
The event is not open to the public but there will be plenty of media and scouts in the house as both Hunter and Sanders skipped the drills at the NFL Combine in Indianapolis. Each of the two players is expected to go in the top five of the draft with many recent mocks projecting the quarterback second to the Browns and the two-way player third to the Giants.
While there aren’t any other first-rounders expected from Colorado, all three receivers in Horn, Sheppard and Wester could be selected. Green was a standout player in college and so too was Silmon-Craig. While many expect Deion Sanders’ other son Shilo to get NFL looks perhaps with whoever selects his little brother to run the offense.
The group led the herd to a resurgent season last fall where the Buffs earned a trip to the Alamo Bowl after competing for the Big 12’s title. Hunter was the best player in college football and Sanders was one of the game’s best quarterbacks.
The event is officially called the “NFL Showcase” so it is not confused with the Big 12’s Pro Day.
