Did Von Miller hint at a return to the Denver Broncos?

Mar 25, 2025, 10:58 AM

The 2025 NFLPA Classic is underway down at El Camaleón Golf Course at Mayakoba in Riviera Maya, Mexico, and ex-Bronco Von Miller is the captain of a foursome filled with familiar faces. Joining Miller on his team this week is Courtland Sutton, Brett Rypien and Brandon McManus.

Miller made an appearance on the Up & Adams show Tuesday morning to talk with host Kay Adams about the golf tournament, which is being played for the third time. On the show, he talked about free agency, his golf game and the Denver Broncos.

The veteran, heading into his 15th year in the NFL, also said that he doesn’t want to deal with the pains of losing like he did with Denver from 2016 to 2021. He didn’t directly say the word ‘contender’ when talking about what team he could possibly end up with, but emphasized the importance of winning games.

After reaching the playoffs in 2024 for the first time since Miller hoisted the Pete Rozelle Trophy, the Denver Broncos showed that they are not the team they were in years prior

Miller, the MVP of Super Bowl 50 and one of the greatest defenders to rep the orange and blue, is a free agent this offseason after the Buffalo Bills cut him earlier this month. Since being traded from Denver in 2021, he won another Super Bowl with the Los Angeles Rams before signing a hefty contract with the Buffalo Bills. An ACL tear in 2022 and a suspension this past season made that contract not worth Buffalo’s time, leading to his release a couple weeks ago.

Would a reunion for Miller and the Broncos make sense? Denver is coming off a season in which they had the best pass rush in the league by far, putting up 63 sacks, and the team is loaded with young talent coming off the edge with players like Nik Bonitto and Jonathon Cooper. Miller’s presence would be very valuable to this room from a leadership perspective, but it will be tough for Denver to make happen if the number isn’t right. The team still has over $17 million in cap space for 2025, but there are more important holes on the roster that need to be addressed with that money instead of at outside linebacker.

In his three years with the Bills, Miller had 14 sacks despite missing most of the 2023 season as he rehabbed his torn ACL. He rebounded strongly in 2024 and showed that while he might not be the same guy who dominated the Carolina Panthers en route to winning Super Bowl MVP, he can still contribute to a team in a smaller role.

While it would be a good story for Miller to be back in Denver, other contenders that desperately need help at outside linebacker could fork over more money than Broncos general manager George Paton would be willing to offer to Miller. For now, he’s focused on the links today and tomorrow as he hits the course with his Broncos-themed foursome.
