Avalanche are getting healthier, Landeskog playing for the Eagles is a maybe

The Colorado Avalanche are getting healthier as the playoffs approach, and captain Gabriel Landeskog might play for the Colorado Eagles at some point.
Those were the two biggest pieces of news after Monday’s practice, both delivered by head coach Jared Bednar.
Four regulars in the lineup, Jonathan Drouin, Martin Necas, Samuel Girard and Josh Manson have all missed time recently with various injuries. Fortunately, Bednar provided good news on all four guys and it sounds like things are trending for them to be healthy once the postseason arrives on either April 19 or 20.
They might even play in some of Colorado’s final four regular season games.
Bednar is hoping all the injured players (Necas, Drouin, Manson, and Girard) will play this week. Said it’s very possible.
He wasn’t sure any will play tomorrow, though.

As for Landeskog, he skated with the Eagles over the weekend, but just in a practice capacity. Some fans are wondering if he’ll play in a rehab game or two with the Avalanche’s AHL affiliate.
“We’ll see,” Bednar told the media on Monday.
Landeskog recently skated back-to-back days, yet another milestone as he continues to recover from cartilage replacement surgery on his knee all the way back in 2023. He hasn’t played in a game for the Avs since the team won the Stanley Cup in the summer of 2022.
Landeskog said last month a lot of guys in his shoes would’ve retired by now, but the Colorado captain still desperately wants to be on the ice with his team. His recovery is being shown in a new docuseries, and a perfect ending would be Landeskog joining the Avs for the postseason.
Plus, defenseman Erik Johnson recently told the NHL on TNT crew that it’s a matter of “when not if” Colorado’s captain can return.
Playing in a competitive game that’s not the playoffs for the Avalanche might help Landeskog ease back into action. It’s worth checking back to see if he indeed does suit up for the Eagles.
In the meantime, Colorado hosts Vegas on Tuesday night, trying to earn two points to help hold off the pesky St. Louis Blues who are charging in the standings. The Avs currently have a five-point edge for the third place slot in the Central Division.
