Coach Prime says the Sanders family has “already won” no matter where his sons get drafted

Mar 20, 2025, 10:26 AM | Updated: 10:38 am

As the 2025 NFL Draft on April 24 draws closer, more and more mock drafts come out with varying opinions. For Colorado quarterback Shedeur Sanders, a lot of mock drafts have him going very high in the first round while some have him dropping into the middle of the first round. No matter where the CU signal caller ends up, his father, Deion “Coach Prime” Sanders, knows that the family has already had great opportunities leading into the NFL.

“We’ve won man, we’ve already won. So we’re thankful and we’re just trying to pave the way for others,” Sanders said this week. “So we can’t lost at this point.”

While most of the talk revolves around Shedeur Sanders as he aims to be selected higher than his father was in the 1989 NFL Draft (No. 5 to the Atlanta Falcons), Coach Prime knows that all Shilo Sanders needs is a shot. The safety is currently projected as a late-round pick, but with workouts scheduled at Thursday’s Big 12 Pro Day and next month’s CU Showcase, it’s possible for him to boost his stock.

Prime then took his signature sunglasses off, and with the biggest smile in the entire room, showed that he’s not worried about where his sons will end up the critique they will face.

“Do you see how I look right now? Do I look stressed? … No! I look blessed! I don’t know what they expect from my kids, they’re their daddy’s sons. We’re used to adversity, we’re used to ignorance and adolescence, we’re used to that. If anybody can handle it, I think they can, and I’m a proud father.”

During his time at Colorado, Coach Prime has emphasized the importance of family, and has extended his parenting to more players than just his biological sons.

For his sons, neither of them participated in drills at the NFL Scouting Combine (Shedeur only did media and interviews while Shilo didn’t receive an invite). However, the lights will be on them throughout their final two offseason workouts, as both will be televised on NFL Network. Shedeur Sanders will start working out at 10:45 a.m. MT on Thursday for the Big 12 Pro Day while Shilo Sanders will begin at 1:15 p.m. MT.
