Colorado Avalanche superstar Nathan MacKinnon had an insane shift against the Detroit Red Wings on Tuesday night.
And it resulted with him putting the puck in the back of the net for his 29th goal of the season.
With the Avs leading the Wings 3-1 in the third period, Colorado got a power play. MacKinnon skated for 1:53 and had a whole bunch of things happen before tallying the goal.
First, MacKinnon broke his stick and went to the bench to get a new twig. Once he was back on the ice he had a pass jump over his new stick because it hit the broken stick.
And that’s where the fun was just beginning.
Eventually, MacKinnon stopped a breakaway after yet another shot of his was blocked. The Avalanche got the puck back in the Detroit zone and after a one-time from Jonathan Drouin got deflected, a perfect bounce ended up on MacKinnon’s blade and he ripped it home.
Clearly exhausted, the Hart Trophy candidate barely celebrated as the Avs took a 4-1 lead and essentially iced the game.
Here’s just some of the video with a few replays thrown in.

The nonchalant manner in which Nathan MacKinnon buried the goal is great. He couldn’t believe after everything that happened the puck finally bounced his way. Colorado would go on to win 5-2.
And don’t look now, but MacKinnon also extended his home point streak with the goal and an assist early to a ridiculous 22 games. His numbers during that stretch have been quite impressive.

MacKinnon also had a 35-game home point streak last year, a campaign in which he was named the NHL’s MVP. He’s been on a generational tear the last few seasons, and it continues in 2024-25 as he leads the league in points with 107.
The Avalanche are fighting for playoff position with the Dallas Stars, and every point matters. For Nathan MacKinnon, he’s willing to stay on the ice as long as possible to get the job done.
