Located in Centennial, the temporary stadium will have 12,000 seats in it to accommodate fans for the first two seasons of play for the team. Including things like a recovery facility, a dining area, a film room and more, the complex will also have eight more soccer fields at the complex (it was not specified whether the fields will have a turf or grass surface). The facilities will cater to female athletes as well.
Once the team moves to the new stadium off I-25 and Broadway in 2028, the complex in Centennial will still serve as Denver’s permanent training facility.
What makes this new location great is the partnership involved with the Cherry Creek School District. The stadium will be cut down to 4,000 seats once the NWSL team is done playing there after the 2027 season, and will be utilized for the school district. This will be great for the district, as it currently holds a lot of its large events in the Stutler Bowl at Cherry Creek High School, built in 1964.
The complex will also offer a lot of benefits to CCSD, including internship opportunities for students, a donation to the district, support for aspiring teachers and mentorship from the NWSL staff to the students in CCSD.
An exact site in Centennial was not named, just the fact that the complex would be in Centennial. This is another massive step for sports in Colorado and the city of Denver, especially women’s sports.
