The NFL offseason is about a quarter of the way complete with the Scouting Combine in the rearview mirror. For the Denver Broncos, the early part of the offseason schedule was released on Thursday, with the first day of the team’s offseason workout program beginning on Monday, April 21.
The offseason program is nine weeks long and is split into three phases. The first phase is a two-week period that consists of strength and conditioning, meetings and physical rehabilitation. The second phase occupies the following three weeks with on-field workouts held at a walk-through pace with no live contact permitted. Finally, the third phase is when teams hold their organized team practice activity (OTAs) with non-contact, team-on-team drills.
Denver will have six days of OTAs, split into three-day segments. The first round will be from May 27-29 and the second round will be from June 3-5. Teams are allowed to have up to 10 days of OTAs, but many teams, including Denver, are not using all 10.
The week after OTAs, the Broncos will hold their mandatory minicamp from June 10-12.
No further dates for Denver have been announced past the minicamp in mid-June. Last season, the team kicked off training camp on July 26.
Most teams are starting their offseason the same week as Denver, but most of the teams who have a new head coach are starting on April 7 (or that week). Teams with new head coaches can have a voluntary minicamp, but it has to take place before the NFL Draft on April 24.
