Unlike 2024, the Broncos have some room to spend — more than $40 million of cap space as the new league year dawns, per OvertheCap.com. This puts the Broncos 19th in cap space, even though they still have $32 million of dead money left on Russell Wilson’s contract.

So, they’re not out of the woods yet. But they do have room with which to operate.

The Broncos got a jump start the night before the legal tampering period began by re-signing backup quarterback Jarrett Stidham to a 2-year deal.

Here’s the latest news on the Broncos as NFL free agency plays out

March 26: Michael Burton re-signs with Broncos

Denver is bringing back veteran fullback and special-teamer Michael Burton after two successful seasons with the Broncos.

March 21: Lil’Jordan Humphrey signs with Giants

The Broncos lost a wide receiver who played more snaps for them last season than any wideout other than Courtland Sutton.

March 19: Broncos get their punter: Matt Haack

The Broncos filled their hole at punter with Matt Haack, who has been with four teams over the last four seasons.

March 12: Broncos sign Evan Engram to 2-year deal

The Broncos finally have their solution to a long-known hole at tight end, inking Evan Engram to a two-year deal for $23 million, of which $16.5 million is guaranteed

March 12: Justin Strnad stays in Denver

For the second consecutive year, the Broncos re-signed ILB Justin Strnad to a one year-contract extension, this time for $2.7 million.

March 11: Broncos add Trent Sherfield, a receiver who does all of the little things

Looking for a Tremon Smith replacement on special teams, the Broncos found Trent Sherfield, who agreed to a two-year contract.

March 11: Riley Dixon moves on

The Broncos are on the hunt for a new punter after Riley Dixon accepted a two-year contract from the Bucs to reunite with his old special-teams coordinator from his years with the New York Giants.

March 10: Javonte Williams’ time in Denver is done

Javonte Williams is signing with the Dallas Cowboys.

March 10: Broncos make major splash, sign Dre Greenlaw

The Broncos made a major move on Monday, signing linebacker Dre Greenlaw to a three-year, $34 million deal.

March 10: Zach Wilson finds new QB gig with Fins

The Miami Dolphins have landed a backup quarterback, signing Zach Wilson to a one-year deal for $6 million.

March 10: Cody Barton leaves Broncos, heads to Titans

After a year as a starting inside linebacker for the Broncos, Barton agreed on a 3-year, $21-million contract with Tennessee.

March 10: Talanoa Hufanga agrees to 3-year deal with Broncos

Hufanga, a former First-Team All-Pro safety, agreed to a 3-year, $45 million dollar ($20 million guaranteed at signing) contract with Denver. Despite battling injuries the previous two seasons, his physicality and awareness will be valuable to Denver’s defense.

March 10: Tremon Smith heads to Houston

Smith, who played almost exclusively on special teams in two Broncos seasons, signed a contract that NFL Network’s Tom Pelissero reported to be the largest for any core special-teamer in the NFL, at $7.5 million over two years.

March 10: Matt Peart agrees to 2-year deal

Denver kept Matt Peart, a reserve offensive tackle who started two games last year and was used frequently in 6-offensive-lineman packages.

March 9: D.J. Jones stays with Broncos

The Broncos kept a key piece of their run-defense equation, re-signing defensive lineman D.J. Jones — and giving him a raise.

March 9: Jarrett Stidham returning to Broncos on 2-year deal

Jarrett Stidham lost the quarterback battle to Bo Nix last summer, but handled his understudy role well throughout the season that followed, and opted to stay with Nix and Sean Payton to provide stability and continue working in Payton’s offensive scheme.

March 9: Mitchell Fraboni returns

The team’s long snapper was set to become a restricted free agent, but the Broncos didn’t want to give him an RFA tender given that it would be more than a typical long snapper’s contract, leading to the sides working out a 3-year deal.
